how many japanese 'ben's or dialects are there?

(although I think the kansai-ben is my fav.. not that i can really tell the difference. It's just that 'aho' seems more effective than 'baka')

i did some research.
haha kansai-ben is a group of dialects from the kansai region.
anyway, kansai-ben = kansai dialect.
there are a total of 7 different dialects.
yupp, there's osaka-ben, kyoto-ben, kobe-ben, banshuu-ben, ise-ben, wakayama-ben, as well as shiga-ben.

the most often used as kansai-ben is the osaka-ben, which we can hear in lovely complex and i think homeless chukagusei too.

which is what we will learn when we go to japanese language schools!
and ure right there, Osaka-ben is the most common kansai dialect from the kansai region.
well japan is split into 4 main islands: Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku.
the kansai region is the southern part of the island of Honshu.
and people there speak different dialects as above!

It's like Chinese dialects. Have you guys heard them before?

im chinese, and even i dont know that there are so many dialects!!!!!!
i only heard of Teochew, Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, and erm, i cant remember cuz it's so late now (brain isnt functioning quite well..)

BUT im chinese and i only know the standard chinese language.
im supposed to know Cantonese since my dad is Cantonese, but apparently i dont.
but even though i have no hokkien blood in me, i can understand and speak it!
weird, huh?

and yupp, its true that the english-teaching system in japan isnt really working well.
they can write quite well, i think.
but when it comes to SPEAKING the language, it seems to be a hard problem.
